“Clifford” the Chihuahua Almost Ready for Forever Home

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Adoption applications are now being accepted for Clifford, the young Chihuahua blend that fell 80 feet from a cliff in Ocean Beach Jan. 11.

“Clifford has made tremendous strides in his recovery from the fall and he will soon be ready for his new “forever” home,” said Department of Animal Services (DAS) Director Dawn Danielson.

The three-month-old puppy did not have a collar or ID tags at the time he was rescued. The Department’s Spirit Fund helped pay for his veterinary care, and he will be healthy enough for adoption in a couple of weeks. The three-pound puppy was named Clifford after the fall.

Anyone interested in adopting the dog can get a special adoption application on the department’s website at www.sddac.com under “Adoptions” and “Special Adoption Application.” The applications can be printed from the website and faxed to (619) 767-2706 or mailed to the Department of Animal Services at 5480 Gaines St., San Diego, CA 92110, with the words Attention:  Clifford Adoption. The forms can also be delivered to any of the three County animal shelters.

Applications must be received by the close of business Saturday, Feb. 2. Staff will review them all and select the home they feel best meets the needs of the puppy. The adoption fee for Clifford is $69.

“There has been a tremendous interest in this little pup,” said Danielson, “but only one family can provide the pup with a forever home. We encourage anyone who is not selected to visit the other wonderful pets at the shelter that are hoping for a new home. They all have their own unique story.”
