This bug has traveled far, and now that it’s here, its dangerous appetite is causing quite a stir.
It’s the South American Palm Weevil, and it’s taking up shop on top of palm trees, specifically, the Canary Island Date Palm, where it starts its path to destruction.
If you suspect your palm trees have been infested or would like more information, call the Insect/Bee hotline at 1-800-200-2337, or email sdcawm@sdcounty.ca.gov. Also, visit UC Riverside’s website to report an infestation and upload pictures of the South American Palm Weevil from your palm tree.
