Gear Up for Summer – Microchip Your Pet!

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Planning to be out and about with your dog this summer?

Put a microchip for Rover on your summer to-do list right there before getting your sun tan lotion and a hat! You can get your pets microchipped, vaccinated and licensed by County Animal Services between noon and 2 p.m., Sunday, June 10 at 5480 Gaines Street in San Diego. If you take advantage of these services, you’ll get a variety of free gifts.

“The chance of a lost pet being reunited with its owner is increased if the pet is microchipped,” said Director of County Animal Services Dawn Danielson. “What better time than the beginning of your busy summer to take action to keep your pet safe. A microchip will give you peace of mind and could save your pet’s life!”

The Department microchips pets for a one-time fee of $20, which includes the registration. Rabies vaccinations for dogs (four months or older) and cats (three months or older) are $6. Amnesty from late fees is offered to owners who have failed to license their dog or have allowed their dog’s annual license to lapse. Coupons for spaying ($50) and neutering ($25) are available for dogs and cats.

Microchipping and rabies vaccinations are available to anyone. Licensing and spay or neuter coupons are available for residents who live in the unincorporated county or the County’s client cities of San Diego, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Solana Beach, Del Mar and Santee.
