Get a Jump on Black Friday

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Whether they have a smudge, spot, stripe or a full dark coat, black animals are in fashion this fall at the County’s three shelters.

In its first ever “Black Friday” pet adoption drive, the County Department of Animal Services is slashing adoption prices ahead of the holiday shopping season for animals sporting the color black. The regular adoption fee of $58 for cats and $69 for dogs will be dropped to the super-low price of $25 for all animals with black in their coats.

The promotion runs Nov. 1 through the end of December.

“We know pets are not mere accessories,” said Dawn Danielson, Director of County Animal Services. “That’s why our trained staff will help new pet owners find that perfect match to fit their home and hearts.”

As an added incentive to get black and non-black animals into loving homes, anyone who adopts a cat or who has adopted a cat from Animal Services within the last year may adopt a second kitty with all fees waived, under the “Better with a Buddy” program. Dogs and rabbits must be part of a bonded pair to qualify for the “Better with a Buddy” program.

All adoptions include spaying or neutering, vaccinations, a microchip and a free health examination.
The three County shelters are open Tuesday through Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The shelters are located at 5480 Gaines St., San Diego; 2481 Palomar Airport Rd., Carlsbad and 5821 Sweetwater Rd., Bonita.
