Avoid Long Lines; Get Passport Now for Holiday Travel

Reading Time: < 1 minute

With the holidays just around the corner, many families are planning to visit relatives or splurge on exotic vacations. If you hope to travel outside the country, now is the time to apply for a passport or bring your current one up to date.

“It can take a few weeks to get a passport. Apply for your passport now before the busy holiday season begins,” said Thomas Pastuszka, County Clerk of the Board of Supervisors. “You should try to maintain a valid passport anytime you’re thinking about traveling abroad, you have family living or traveling abroad or you have a job that requires international travel.”

The County offers passport services at the County Administration Center downtown at 1600 Pacific Highway in Room 402. No appointment is necessary and there is free two-hour parking. You can apply for passport books or passport cards Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., excluding County holidays.  On-site passport photo services are also available.

A passport book is required for international air travel. A passport card is often used in communities where crossing the border is a daily occurrence but can also be used at U.S. land and sea ports-of-entry for travelers arriving from Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean and Bermuda.

If you’d like to save time, money and stress this holiday season, get a passport or card now and check this item off your holiday to-do list.
