Boppy Pillows to be Given to Low-Income Mothers

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Hundreds of new and expectant moms will receive an early Mother’s Day present: a Boppy Pillow, which is used by breast-feeding mothers and by infants during their first year of life.

Through its Mother’s Day Support Program, The Boppy Company will donate their coveted pillows to low-income moms who are in the County’s Nurse-Family Partnership program.

“We are thankful to The Boppy Company for giving low-income moms such a coveted gift,” said Vice-Chairman Greg Cox, County Board of Supervisors. “This is another example of the County’s great public/private partnerships to help families in need.”

Nurse-Family Partnership pairs a first-time, low-income mom with a registered nurse who makes home visits throughout the pregnancy and up until the child’s second birthday. The program improves pregnancy outcomes, child health and development, as well as the family’s economic self-sufficiency. Nationally it has served 150,941 at-risk families, and is currently working with close to 22,000 families in 37 states. Locally, the County’s Nurse-Family Partnership has helped more than 2,200 vulnerable families since 2002.

Some positive outcomes of the Nurse-Family Partnership program include:

  • 91 percent of babies born at a healthy weight
  • 96 percent of mothers beginning to breast-feed
  • 96 percent of babies up-to-date with immunizations at 24 months
  • 33 percent increase in workforce participation

“This is a wonderful program that is transforming the lives of vulnerable first-time moms and their babies,” said Nick Macchione, director of the County Health and Human Services Agency. “It is helping to improve the health of local residents, a goal of the County’s Live Well, San Diego! initiative.”

For every person who visits www.Boppy.com and clicks on a special “Give Your Support” icon, The Boppy Company will donate $1 toward a Boppy Pillow to be gifted to new San Diego moms.

Last year, through a similar program, The Boppy Company donated 500 pillows to new moms across the country. This year, the company is committed again to donating hundreds of Boppy pillows to at-risk moms, and many of them will go to San Diego moms.

“In honor of Mother’s Day, we are supporting moms who need it most in San Diego,” said Nancy Bartley, CEO of The Boppy Company. “We are proud to partner with a meaningful organization like Nurse-Family Partnership on our Mother’s Day Support Program and provide Boppy pillows, voted the number one baby product for a record nine years, to new moms who are in need of extra support.”
