It’s proven to be a winning team, year after year.

The San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency has teamed up again with the San Diego Chargers and CBS News 8 for the annual “Join the Team” Chargers calendar to raise awareness for children waiting to be adopted.

It’s the eighth year the calendar has featured Chargers players and children in the child welfare system waiting for a forever family. The calendars are part of the County’s Exceptional Families for Exceptional Children campaign.

The goal of the calendars is to find a home for the children featured and raise awareness of the need for individuals, couples and families to consider sharing their life with a waiting child.

The calendar has proven to be successful in placing the majority of children featured in it every year. Overall, the County places more than 325 children in adoptive homes each year. But at any given time, more than 40 children are still waiting to find a permanent home.

The calendars were revealed during the recent Chargers-Patriots game and are now available for free at San Diego County libraries, San Diego City libraries, Wendy’s restaurants, San Diego County Credit Unions and North Island Credit Unions while supplies last.
