Reading Time: < 1 minute

In honor of Memorial Day, County Animal Services is joining Animals for Armed Forces and waiving adoption fees to military members and their families on Saturday, May 28.

Residents who show a military ID can choose any animal up for adoption at the County’s three animal care facilities from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 28 only. Animals for Armed Forces will pick up the tab for 150 pet adoptions or 50 from each facility. County Animal Services will include vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchips, licensing and a free veterinary exam.

This is the first time County Animal Services has been invited to participate in the adoption event and staff members are more than happy to take part.

“On this Memorial Day weekend, it’s important to remember all of the sacrifices made by veterans, active military and their families to keep us safe,” said County Animal Services Director Dawn Danielson. “This is our way of saying thank you for all they do.”

County Animal Services and its three shelters are among 25 locations throughout southern California offering the free adoptions through Animals for Armed Forces. The adoption waiver applies to active duty, reserve and veterans of the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Army, Air Force, National Guard and their immediate families.

Potential adopters must bring a photo ID and one of the following to be eligible for the fee waiver: a military ID, Dependent ID, DD-214 and driver’s license or NGB Form 22.
