Statement on Supreme Court Decision to Review Prop. 8

San Diego Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk Ernest J. Dronenburg issued the following news release regarding Friday’s U.S. Supreme Court action on Proposition 8. 

The United States Supreme Court announced today that they will review the 9th Circuit Court’s decision overturning Proposition 8.

The San Diego Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk is not authorized to issue marriage licenses or to perform civil marriage ceremonies for same-sex couples at this time. Our office is awaiting the Supreme Court’s decision which is expected by mid-2013.

We understand there is a great deal of interest in the Court’s decision and that many couples are awaiting information on how to obtain a marriage license and arrange for a civil ceremony.
