Recognize local volunteers for their work with parks and outdoor spaces across San Diego County—nominate them for the second annual Parks Champion Awards.

“We are proud to lead the way in honoring the valuable impact volunteers have on our local parks, regional preserves, recreational programming and outdoor education,” said County Parks and Recreation Director Brian Albright. “The work and leadership of so many volunteers contributes to an improved quality of life in San Diego.”

Parks and Recreation is looking for champions whose volunteer efforts have made a significant impact in environmental stewardship, community service and healthy, active lifestyles. Candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • live and work in San Diego County (efforts submitted cannot be a part of one’s job)
  • have a proven track record of outstanding volunteer service and success
  • work hard (and well) to bring an idea to reality that can improve the quality of life for a particular group or the full community
  • be an advocate for local parks, regional preserves, recreational programming and/or outdoor education
  • and be a leader who motivates people and inspires others to act, who can serve as a spokesperson for initiatives that support parks, preserves, recreation and education

The nomination period is open now through May 31. A panel of judges will review submissions.

The winners will be recognized at a ceremony in July in celebration of National Parks and Recreation Month.
