A Perfect Time to “Check Out” E-books at the Library

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Lucky you! You got the tablet or e-book reader you were hoping for over the holidays.

The San Diego County Library is ready to help you use them with everything from tutorials on using the readers to hands-on workshops to a catalog of titles with something for everyone.

Everything you need to get reading e-books is on one convenient page on the library’s website.  It’s easy to browse the collection and select the e-book you want.

Thousands of e-books are available for download, from Veronica Roth’s Divergent and George R.R. Martin’s A Game of Thrones to Miley Cyrus’ Miles to Go. There are guides to photography and plumbing, cookbooks, how-to guides and even Twitter for Dummies. Just like any library book, they’re all free of charge and accessible to anyone with a County Library card. An added bonus – e-books are automatically “returned” to the library, so there are no late fees.

The library provides online instructions for Apple devices, Kindle and Kindle Fire, Nook, Sony Reader, Android, Windows 8 devices and MP3 players, including video tutorials for many of them.

If you’re looking for more personal instruction, the Library regularly holds e-book workshops at its branch libraries.

Classes are currently offered at three branches:

Encinitas Library every Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. (you can register at 760-753-7376).

San Marcos Library the second Sunday of every month from 1 to 3 p.m. (call 760-891-3000 for more information).

Del Mar Library by appointment on Saturdays between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. Call the branch at (858) 755-1666 to set up a 30-minute session.
