Snow Expected in County’s Mountain Areas This Weekend

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Snow is expected to fall in the San Diego County mountain areas this weekend, including Julian, Pine Valley and Descanso. That usually brings visitors to see the snow, and the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department has a few reminders for people traveling to the area.

Be prepared with a full tank of gas, water and food in case you are stuck in traffic for several hours. Road conditions and crowds headed to the snow can significantly delay travel. Also, keep in mind that public restroom facilities are limited in the area.

Snow chains may also be required on certain roadways. Chain controls, road condition updates and other safety advisories about County-maintained roads are posted on the Department of Public Work’s Facebook and Twitter sites.

When you’re looking for a place to play in the snow, remember that private property is off limits. The Sheriff’s Department asks people to take note of signs and fences marking private property.

Parking is also limited and parking violations will be enforced and citations will be issued. Vehicles blocking roadways and private property will be towed. Be aware of increased law enforcement activity to handle the large crowds.

If you have any safety concerns, please call the Sheriff’s Department at (858) 565-5200.
