Teen Bands to Battle it Out

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Most people are used to the stereotype of seeing a librarian put her index finder to her lips and “shhhh!” people for being too loud in a library full of readers and people studying.

That certainly will not be the case for a few days this summer as three branches of the San Diego County Public library host the annual teen Battle of the Bands.

The third annual competition is open to teens 12- to 18-years-old. All song lyrics must be non-offensive and family friendly. Bands must provide their own equipment, but the library will provide the sound system.

To enter the competition, a band must submit an application and demo by Friday, May 25 to the Vista Library (700 Eucalyptus Ave), El Cajon Library (201 E Douglas Ave), Poway Library (13137 Poway Rd), via mail (Attn: Jennifer Lawson, SD County Library, 5560 Overland Ave #100, San Diego, CA 92123), or via email to Jennifer.Lawson1@sdcounty.ca.gov. Demos do not need to be professionally produced.

Selected bands will be invited to compete at one of two Battle of the Bands events.  The first event will take place June 30 from 1-4 p.m. at the Vista Library and the second event will take place on July 7 from 1-4 p.m. at the El Cajon Library.  The top three bands from each competition will compete in the finals on July 21 at the Poway Library.  The top four winners of the final event will receive paid gigs at the library.
