The San Diego County Library closes 2015 with some big numbers and not just in terms of circulation. According to a national statistical report of 1,100 libraries last fiscal year, the San Diego County Library ranked:
- #4 in number of programs. The County Library offers 31,571 programs for children, teens and adults. Among them are citizenship classes and Zumba dance classes!
- #8 in the number of hours branches are open to the public. One third of the library’s 33 branches are open Sundays and additional hours are planned for 2016. The library also has two bookmobiles and two 24/7 Library to Go self-service kiosks. Three more kiosks are planned within two years.
- #19 in circulation. The library offers 11.1 million materials including books, DVDs, CDs and e-books. Circulation in e-books alone jumped 65 percent!
So which of those books, e-books and DVDs ranked in the top 15 for County Library checkouts in 2015? If you include children’s books, the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” series by Jeff Kinney took the top nine spots!
