Imagine your warm, snuggly bed roaring to life and taking to the road.
That is just what happened to a 5-year-old cat that had bedded down in the engine area of a car. The driver traveled from Poway to Kearny Mesa Tuesday morning before discovering the animal under the hood.
“As the nights cool down, more animals will seek warmth from a car engine and many become severely injured when they’re trapped inside,” said Animals Services Deputy Director Dan DeSousa. “This time, there was a happy ending.”
The female cat wasn’t hurt and the driver took her to the County’s animal care facility on Gaines Street. Staff members checked for a microchip and the cat was reunited with her owner Wednesday.
Animal Services say the best way to keep cats safe is to keep them indoors. Drivers can also rap on the hood of their car or tap the horn before starting the car to scare any animal out of the engine area before driving.
