San Diego County COVID-19 Update – 5-5-2021

Here is today’s COVID-19 update from the County Health and Human Services Agency with data through May 4.

Vaccination Progress:

  • Doses delivered: Nearly 3.21 million.
  • Doses administered: Over 2.88 million.
  • Received at least one shot: Over 1.52 million or 56.6% of San Diegans 16 and older.
  • Fully vaccinated: More than 1.11 million or 41.4%.
  • The goal: fully vaccinate 75% of San Diego County residents 16 and older or 2,017,011 people.
  • To date, 75.5% of the goal population has received at least one vaccine and 55.2% are fully vaccinated.

State Metrics:

  • San Diego County’s state-calculated, adjusted case rate is currently 5.0 cases per 100,000 residents.
  • The testing positivity percentage is 2.2%.
  • The health equity metric is 2.7%.
  • CDPH assesses counties on a weekly basis. The next report is scheduled for Tuesday, May 11.

Community Setting Outbreaks:

  • Four new community outbreaks were reported May 4: one in a restaurant setting, one in a grocery/retail setting, one in restaurant/bar setting and one in a daycare/preschool/childcare setting.
  • In the past seven days (April 28 through May 4), 18 community outbreaks were confirmed.
  • The community outbreaks trigger is seven or more in seven days.

Testing:

  • 17,363 tests were reported to the County on May 4, and the percentage of new positive cases was 1%.
  • The 14-day rolling average percentage of positive cases is 1.4%. Target is less than 8.0%.
  • The 7-day, daily average of tests is 12,448.

Cases, Hospitalizations and ICU Admissions:

  • 219 COVID-19 cases were reported to the County on May 4. The region’s total is now 277,097.
  • 15,276 or 5.5% of all cases have required hospitalization.
  • 1,684 or 0.6% of all cases and 11% of hospitalized cases had to be admitted to an intensive care unit.

Deaths:

  • Three new COVID-19 deaths were reported May 4. The region’s total is 3,716.
  • Two women and one man died between Jan. 29 and April 27.
  • The deceased were all 80 years of age or older. They had underlying medical conditions.
