As part of Wildfire Preparedness Week, CAL FIRE teamed up with California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara and the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety to demonstrate the significantly different burn rates between a home that has been hardened against wildfire and one that has not been.
The hardened home was built with fire resistant materials and included defensible space, the regular home used typical building materials and did not include defensible space. Embers quickly burned the regular home to the ground.
