Animal Services Waives Pet Adoption Fees for Military

Reading Time: < 1 minute

In a salute to military members and their families, County Animal Services is offering them free animal adoptions May 24 through May 26. The department is taking part in the Animals for Armed Forces special adoption event over the Memorial Day weekend.

Active duty, reserve and veterans can choose from 25 locations that are waiving or reducing pet adoption fees as a thank you for their service.

Animals for Armed Forces is picking up the cost for adoptions. County Animal Services’ two locations are throwing in free vaccinations, a spay/neuter, a microchip, licensing and a veterinary exam.

“This is the County’s way of saying thank you for all the sacrifices the military and their families make to keep us safe,” said County Animal Services Director Dan DeSousa. “And sometimes these adoptions have the effect of the two rescuing each other.”

The County special applies to dogs, cats and rabbits. Any member of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, National Guard and immediate family are eligible for the free adoptions.

The special adoption event takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 24, Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26. County Animal Services will be closed on Memorial Day.

Potential adopters must bring a photo ID and one of the following to be eligible for the fee waiver: a military ID, Dependent ID, DD-214 and driver’s license or NGB Form 22.
