County Close to COVID-19 Vaccination Milestone

Reading Time: 2 minutes

With almost 2.1 million San Diegans having gotten at least one shot of the COVID-19 vaccine, the County is continuing to get closer to herd immunity.

To date, a total of 2,098,135 San Diegans 12 and over have received at least one vaccine. That’s 99.8% of San Diego County’s current goal to fully vaccinate 2,101,936 – 75% – of eligible residents, thereby reducing the likelihood of COVID-19 infection in San Diegans who can’t or won’t get vaccinated. Currently, a total 1,728,882 or 82.3% of the goal population are fully vaccinated.

“The more people who get vaccinated and achieve immunity, the more protected we’re all going to be,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County public health officer. “Go get vaccinated now so that we can go back to doing the things we love.”

San Diegans who have not gotten vaccinated have plenty of incentives, including Padres tickets, $50 and opportunities for other prizes.

“The pandemic is not over. Get vaccinated now to protect yourself and others,” Wooten said.
