County Opens Four More COVID-19 Testing Sites; Capacity Now at 6,500 Daily Tests
Due to increased demand, the County is once again opening more sites where San Diegans can get tested for COVID-19.
Four new sites have opened or will open this week. They are:
- Lemon Grove Senior Center – Now Open

Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. - North County Lifeline – Opens Aug. 12
200 Michigan Ave., Vista
Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. - Border View YMCA –Opens Aug. 15
3601 Arey Dr., San Diego
Sun. – Thur. from 10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
“In late July, we started to see a significant increase in demand for COVID-19 testing,” said Denise Foster, R.N., the County’s chief nursing officer and COVID-19 clinical director. “In response to the need, we quickly identified several new sites to increase capacity.”
In addition to these new sites, the County opened six others last week, bringing the daily testing capacity to about 6,500 tests each day. Testing is also widely available through pharmacies and other medical providers, with hospital emergency departments primarily for those symptomatic and in need of immediate care. Test results generally come back in about 1-2 days.

Vaccination Progress:
- Doses administered: More than 4.4 million.
- Received at least one shot: About 2.33 million or 83.1% of San Diegans 12 and older are partially vaccinated.
- Fully vaccinated: Over 2.04 million or 72.8%.
- The goal: vaccinate 75% of San Diego County residents 12 and older or 2,101,936 people, with at least one dose.
- To date, 110.9% of the goal population has received at least one vaccine and 97.1% are fully vaccinated.

Deaths:
- 14 new deaths were reported since the last report on Aug. 4. The region’s total is 3,818. After a quality assurance check, one death was removed from the list.
- Eight men and six women died between June 1 to Aug. 8, 2021.
- Four were 80 years of age or older, four were in their 70s, three were in their 60s, one was in their 50s, one was in their 40s and one was in their 30s.
- 11 had underlying medical conditions and three did not.
Cases, Case Rate and Testing:
- 1,134 COVID-19 cases were reported to the County on Aug. 10. The region’s total is now 309,406.
- San Diego County’s case rate per 100,000 residents is: Overall (21.5); Fully vaccinated (4.5); Not fully vaccinated (41.1).
- 12,103 tests were reported to the County on Aug. 10, and the percentage of new positive cases was 9.4%.
- The 14-day rolling percentage of positive cases among tests is 7.8%.
Community Setting Outbreaks:
- 47 new community outbreaks were confirmed in the past seven days (Aug. 4 through Aug. 10): 18 in restaurant/bar settings, 11 in business settings, three in daycare/preschool/childcare settings, three in retail settings, three in hotel/resort/spa settings, two in faith-based settings, two in TK-12 school settings, one in a health care setting, one in a government setting, one in a grocery setting, one in a restaurant setting and one in a distribution warehouse setting.
- The community outbreaks trigger is more than seven in a 7-day period.
