Has your home dropped in value over the past year? Property owners in San Diego County can request an informal property assessment review until April 30.
Applications can be submitted online through the County Assessor/Recorder/Clerk Ernie Dronenburg’s website. The form does not require legal expertise to complete, only an understanding of the current market value of your home.
Many property values in the region have risen recently, but property owners who believe their property’s market value has dropped below its current assessed value can request the review before this year’s bill is issued. You can reference the Net Taxable Value of your property by looking at your 2012-13 tax bill.
The more than 230,000 property owners whose values were reduced between 2005 and 2012 do not need to apply for another review. Their assessments will be automatically reviewed.
For more information, visit the Assessor’s website or to request a review by phone, call (858)505-6262 and the Assessor’s office can mail or fax the appropriate form.
Property owners who request reviews will be informed of the Assessor’s findings in July. If a property owner disagrees with the results, they can file a formal appeal with the County Assessment Appeals Board between July 2 and Nov. 30.
