Remember prom? For teenage girls, it’s all about the dress. But finances are tight for many families nowadays and a dress may not be in the budget.
The San Diego County Library came to the rescue last year and gave away 200 gently-used formal gowns. This year, two gown giveaway events are scheduled April 21 in Vista and El Cajon, but with just days to go, donations are down and the Library could use your help in making dreams come true for teenage girls in need.
Any County branch library will take semi-formal or formal dresses in all styles, sizes and lengths as long as the gowns are less than five years old, clean, in good condition and come on a hanger. Donations will be accepted until April 20.
The gown giveaway events are sponsored by the Princess Project, a non-profit organization devoted to giving free prom dresses to high school girls who need them. In recent days, it donated several hundred gowns, but more are still needed.
If you’d like to help, contact the Vista Library at (760) 643-5100 or the El Cajon Library at (619) 588-3718 or visit www.sdcl.org
The gown giveaways take place from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., Saturday April 21 at the Vista Library branch at 700 Eucalyptus Avenue and the El Cajon library branch at 201 E. Douglas Ave.
