Free Sandbags for Rain-Wracked Borrego, Julian
People living in the unincorporated areas of Borrego Springs and Julian can get free sandbag materials to help protect their homes, neighborhoods and streets from possible flooding, erosion and mud flows from continuing heavy rainfall and future rains as summer turns to fall.
The San Diego County Department of Public Works (DPW) is providing sandbag material at two locations, starting today:
- Free sand and bags — just bring your own shovel — at CAL FIRE station 50 in Julian, located at 1587 Highway 78.
- Free bags to put sand into at the San Diego County Sheriff’s Substation in Borrego Springs, located at 571 Palm Canyon Drive.
The department is urging residents to continue to monitor their local news for weather updates and emergency information. Heavy rains can trigger mud flows and flooding without warning that can damage homes, roads and properties.
