Give Fido the Love He Needs This Valentine’s Day

A new chew toy and treats are nice but a microchip, rabies vaccination and a dog license really says you love your pet!

County Animal Services is offering microchips, vaccinations and licenses during a rabies clinic at the animal care facility in Carlsbad this Sunday, Feb. 10. The clinic will be held between noon and 2 p.m. at 2481 Palomar Airport Road.

“Open your heart and show how much you care for your pet this Valentine’s Day by getting your pet microchipped,” said County Animal Services Director Dawn Danielson. “If your best friend gets lost, a microchip will increase the chances of your pet being reunited with you. Everyone with a dog or cat should take advantage of this offer. It could save your pet’s life!”

Pets will be microchipped for a one-time fee of $20, which includes the registration. Rabies vaccinations for dogs four months or older and cats three months or older are $6. Amnesty from late fees is offered to owners who have failed to license their dog or have allowed their dog’s annual license to lapse.

In an effort to reduce the number of unwanted and homeless kittens that start arriving at the shelters in March, $100 spay coupons will be offered to owners for their female cats. Spay/neuter coupons ($50 for female dogs and $25 for male cats and dogs) will also be available.

Microchipping and rabies vaccinations are available to anyone. Licenses and spay/neuter coupons are offered to residents who live in the unincorporated county or contract cities of San Diego, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Solana Beach, Del Mar and Santee.

For the protection of owners and their pets, dogs must be on a leash and cats in a carrier while at the clinic.
