The national weather service has issued a heat advisory for the valleys in San Diego County Tuesday morning through Wednesday evening, and County officials are offering tips for how people, their families and pets can stay safe.

Officials expect temperatures to soar into the mid-to-high 90s in local valleys and cities including El Cajon, Escondido, La Mesa, Poway, Santee and San Marcos.

Extremely high temperatures can be dangerous to people and pets and can even lead to stroke or death. Signs of overheating can include exhaustion, dizziness, nausea, confusion and headache. Children and older people are particularly at risk, according to health officials.
