Important Deadlines Near for June 5 Election
You only have one more week to register to vote in the June 5 Presidential Primary Election. If you’re not sure whether you’re registered, check it online at the Registrar of Voters’ site, sdvote.com.
“If you’ve moved recently, changed your name or your party preference you’ll need to fill out a new registration form,” said Deborah Seiler, Registrar of Voters. “If you go online, the process is quick, easy and convenient.” The online form is provided in English, Spanish, Filipino, Vietnamese and Chinese.
If you are a registered nonpartisan voter, you will not see any presidential candidates listed on your ballot. Nonpartisan voters who would like to vote for a presidential candidate have two options. They may request a Democratic or American Independent ballot or they can update their registration to change their party preference.
Here are the two important deadlines that are approaching:
- Monday, May 21 – Deadline to Register: Residents can fill out a registration form (pdf), print it, sign it and mail it to the Registrar. The forms are also available at the Registrar of Voters office, US Post Offices, City Clerk offices, public libraries and Department of Motor Vehicles offices. All forms must be postmarked or delivered to the Registrar of Voters no later than 8 p.m. on May 21.
- Tuesday, May 29 – Deadline to Apply for Mail Ballot: Voters can find the application online (pdf) or on the back of the sample ballot and voter information pamphlet sent to each registered voter. You also have the option of sending a letter to the Registrar of Voters with your name, registered address, the name and date of the election, the address where the ballot is to be mailed and your signature. Send forms to Registrar of Voters, 5201 Ruffin Road, Suite I, San Diego, 92123 or fax them to (858) 694-2955. Applications must be received by 5 p.m. on May 29. Postmarks cannot be accepted.
