If getting your finances in order was one of your New Year resolutions, it’s still not too late to get yourself on the right track. The San Diego County Library has just the resource you need to get started: Financial Wellness Wednesdays.
It’s a series of classes held at local library branches that offer free instruction and counseling in personal finance. The classes are held on Wednesdays through March 29.
“This is a great partnership with San Diego County Credit Union for all those library customers looking to get their finances in order as we start a new year,” said Shelia Crosby, library program services manager.
“With Student Loans a hot topic right now, this is a great time for people to take advantage of the seminar on repaying student loans, along with many other relevant topics.”
Seminars will be held on understanding credit reports, preventing identity theft and avoiding scams; teens and money; building a better budget and rebuilding after a financial crisis.
The classes are also co-sponsored by the County’s Health and Human Services Agency as part of Live Well San Diego, which is an initiative to help county residents live in healthy, safe and thriving communities.
According to SDCCU, research shows that poor financial health can often lead to diminished physical health. Also, evidence suggests that the average high school graduate lacks basic skills to manage personal finances, many young people experience difficulty balancing a checkbook and half of Americans live paycheck to paycheck.
