New County Initiative Enables Employees to get COVID-19 Vaccine at Work
Reading Time: 2 minutesThe County of San Diego is making it easier for businesses and community organizations to host mobile vaccination events at their place of business. Beginning today, businesses can fill out an online request for a mobile vaccination team to come to their worksite.
This initiative is an effort to increase access to COVID-19 vaccines, especially for employees whose work schedules make it difficult to obtain a COVID-19 shot at a traditional vaccination site. The San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce joined the County today for an event promoting business participation.
Organizations interested in hosting a COVID-19 vaccination event at their site can sign up online.
Vaccination Progress:
- Doses delivered: Close to 3.55 million.
- Doses administered: More than 3.09 million.
- Received at least one shot: More than 1.7 million or 63.3% of San Diegans 16 and older.
- Fully vaccinated: Close to 1.21 million or 44.9%.
- The goal: fully vaccinate 75% of San Diego County residents 16 and older or 2,017,011 people.
- To date, 84.4% of the goal population has received at least one vaccine and 59.9% are fully vaccinated.

State Metrics:
- San Diego County’s state-calculated, adjusted case rate is currently 5.0 cases per 100,000 residents.
- The testing positivity percentage is 2.2%.
- The health equity metric is 2.7%.
- CDPH assesses counties on a weekly basis. The next report is scheduled for Tuesday, May 11.
Community Setting Outbreaks:
- Five new community outbreaks were reported May 6, three in business settings and two in TK-12 school settings.
- In the past seven days (April 30 through May 6), 16 community outbreaks were confirmed.
- The community outbreaks trigger is seven or more in seven days.
Testing:
- 14,864 tests were reported to the County on May 6, and the percentage of new positive cases was 1%.
- The 14-day rolling average percentage of positive cases is 1.3%. Target is less than 8.0%.
- The 7-day, daily average of tests is 11,964.
Cases, Hospitalizations and ICU Admissions:
- 210 COVID-19 cases were reported to the County on May 6. The region’s total is now 277,533.
- 15,293 or 5.5% of all cases have required hospitalization.
- 1,687 or 0.6% of all cases and 11% of hospitalized cases had to be admitted to an intensive care unit.
Deaths:
- Two new COVID-19 deaths were reported May 6. The region’s total is 3,718.
- A woman in her 80s and a man in his 50s died between Jan. 26 and May 6.
- Both had underlying medical conditions.
