Nearly 400 people are under arrest after a weekend operation involving more than a thousand law enforcement officers, including members of the County Sheriff’s Department, District Attorney’s Office and Probation Department.
Operation Allied Shield IV targeted San Diego gangs’ involvement with drug smuggling, human trafficking and other cross-border crimes. In the process, officers came across and addressed a wide range of other criminal activities such as possession of illegal drugs, DUIs, traffic violations, and parole and probation violations.
The operation began Friday evening and ran until early Saturday morning. Officers from federal, state and local agencies focused on the southern and eastern regions of San Diego County.
They made a total of 372 arrests and 79 narcotics seizures. The drugs included more than 100 marijuana plants and quantities of methamphetamine, heroin and cocaine.
Operation Allied Shield is a regional approach to border security and crime fighting. Funding for the operation came from a grant from the Department of Homeland Security under Operation Stone Garden.
