Nearly 100 law interns from coast to coast will be working alongside San Diego County deputy public defenders in case preparation and courtroom advocacy.

Public Defender Paul Rodriguez attended the recent intern orientation to offer encouragement and inspiration to the largest legal internship class the Public Defender’s Office has ever offered.

“The San Diego County Public Defender’s Office takes pride in welcoming this outstanding group and expresses gratitude for their commitment to public service,” Rodriguez said. “These interns will gain hands-on experience in the zealous representation of indigent clients working with deputy public defenders.”

This year’s summer interns include students from the following states and universities.

California

District of Columbia

Florida

Georgia

Maryland

Massachusetts

Nevada

New York

Virginia

The Legal Internship program reflects the Public Defender’s Office’s continued commitment to excellence in public defense and legal education. The Public Defender provides quality legal assistance to individuals charged with a crime in state court who are financially unable to retain private counsel.
