San Diego County COVID-19 Update – 9-8-2021

Here is this week’s COVID-19 update from the County Health and Human Services Agency with data through Sept. 7.

Vaccination Progress:

Deaths:

  • 18 new deaths were reported since the last report on Sept. 1. The region’s total is 3,926.
  • Six women and 12 men died between Aug. 23 and Sept. 2, 2021.
  • Three were 80 years of age or older, five were in their 70s, four were in their 60s, two were in their 50s, three were in their 40s and one was in their 30s.
  • 16 had underlying medical conditions and two had medical history pending.

Cases, Case Rates and Testing:

  • 738 COVID-19 cases were reported to the County on Sept. 7. The region’s total is now 341,437.
  • San Diego County’s case rate per 100,000 residents is 37.1 overall, 17.7 for fully vaccinated people and 61.9 for not fully vaccinated San Diegans.
  • 16,451 tests were reported to the County on Sept. 7, and the percentage of new positive cases was 4.5%.
  • The 14-day rolling percentage of positive cases among tests is 5.5%.

Community Setting Outbreaks:

  • 48 new community outbreaks were confirmed in the past seven days (Sept. 1 through Sept. 7): 14 in TK-12 grade school settings, 11 in business settings, eight in government settings, three in healthcare settings, three in hotel/resort/spa settings, two in daycare/preschool/childcare settings, two in restaurant settings, one in a college/university setting, one in a faith-based setting, one in a restaurant/bar setting, one in a retail setting, and one in a social club setting.
  • The community outbreaks trigger is more than seven in a 7-day period.
