Virtual Town Hall Set on Policing Equity Report on Sheriff’s Department
The Citizens’ Law Enforcement Review Board will host a virtual town hall Feb. 22 on a report recently published by the Center for Policing Equity that looked at practices by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
Members of CPE will present an overview of their report and answer questions regarding its findings, and the public can provide comments.
The Sheriff’s Department participated in a National Justice Database Project, in which the CPE independently reviewed the department’s uses of force, traffic stops, and non-traffic stop data from 2016 to 2020.
CPE published the report in December 2021. Among its findings, the report found disparities in how minorities were treated. The Sheriff’s Department issued a response disputing those conclusions and questioned the analysis.
