They are questions on nearly all of our minds.
Will San Diego’s economy continue to roll along at a steady pace in 2014? Or can we expect more bumps in the road?
A carefully selected group of local economists and experts will tackle these and other key questions this Friday, Jan. 17 at the 30th Annual San Diego County Economic Roundtable. Speakers will offer insights into how San Diego’s economy will fare at the free event, to be held at the University of San Diego’s Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice. Up to 500 people can attend.
“The Roundtable gives us a jumpstart on the financial outlook for the year ahead,” said County Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Dianne Jacob. “The insights shared by experts there can help not only governments and businesses, but families, too, as they try to plan ahead and make smart choices.”
Participants will get to hear from top local economists, in addition to experts on San Diego’s real estate market, economic development, and health care and manufacturing industries. The roundtable is the region’s longest-running free economic forecasting event. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the event is expected to run from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Participants will have a chance to ask questions of panelists.
Chairwoman Jacob will offer opening remarks, along with David Pyke, Dean of USD’s School of Business Administration; Peter Callstrom, President and CEO of San Diego Workforce Partnership and Jeff Light, Editor of U-T San Diego.
Panelists in the first session will include Alan Gin, Associate Professor of Economics at USD’s School of Business Administration; Joseph Crowley, Senior Vice President at De La Rosa & Co, a California-based investment banking firm and Marney Cox, Chief Economist with the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG).
The second session will include Joe Bertocchini, Residential Real Estate Director at USD’s Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate; Mark Cafferty, President and CEO of the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation; Michele Nash-Hoff, President of ElectroFab Sales, and Julianne R. Howell, Ph.D., Senior Health Policy Advisor for the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency.
Sponsors of the event include the County of San Diego, San Diego Workforce Partnership, University of San Diego School of Business Administration and U-T San Diego. USD’s Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice is located at 5998 Alcala Park in San Diego.
