Supervisor Ron Roberts was unanimously voted chairman of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors for 2016 at the Board’s first meeting of the new year Tuesday.

Ron Roberts officially accepted the chairmanship and gavel from Supervisor Bill Horn, who served as chairman in 2015.

The Board also voted unanimously to appoint Supervisor Dianne Jacob as vice-chairwoman and Supervisor Dave Roberts as chairman pro tem.

Horn thanked the rest of the Board, county executive team and employees, before noting some of the County’s accomplishments in the last year, including a focus on veterans.

Achievements he cited included the opening of the Military and Veterans Service Office at the North Inland Live Well Center in Escondido; launch of in-person and teleconferencing benefits counseling for veterans at certain San Diego County libraries; rollout of a new fire hazard risk map; expansion of the school resource officer, truancy officer programs at a dozen school districts; maintaining the County’s top credit rating; and purchase of a third firefighting helicopter.

“None of this would be possible without the stewardship of colleagues, the County leadership and our hardworking staff,” said Horn.

“The chairman has done tremendous work on behalf of veterans this year,” Ron Roberts said, commending Horn for his leadership.

As new chairman, Roberts will outline the County’s 2016 goals at the annual State of the County address in the upcoming weeks.
