Time to check and clean out your medicine cabinets, nightstands, or shelves where you keep your prescription drugs and safely dispose of your unwanted or expired medications. Medications can’t just be thrown out or flushed, you need to dispose of them safely and responsibly, so they don’t pollute streams or other bodies of water or get picked out of your trash.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is participating in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at four Sheriff’s patrol stations: 2751 Alpine Blvd. in Alpine, 845 Imperial Beach Blvd. in Imperial Beach, 182 Santar Place in San Marcos, and 13100 Bowron Road in Poway. The event is hosted by the Food and Drug Administration and the Drug Enforcement Agency and offers 26 sites in San Diego County for convenience. Check for other locations.

The Sheriff’s Department is committed to this cause as a member of the Prescription Drug Abuse Task Force and offers year-round safe disposal boxes Monday through Friday during business hours at these locations.
