County Airports, Marines Team Up for Annual Toys for Tots Drive

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Picture four-plus truck loads of toys.

Now picture the smiles those toys would bring to the faces of the less fortunate kids who receive them.

Now, picture yourself as part of that picture.

The County and the Marine Corps are once again collecting new, unwrapped toys at County airports in Borrego Springs, Carlsbad, El Cajon, Fallbrook, and Ramona in their annual Toys for Tots campaign drive.

Last year, donations from county residents filled four military trucks (and a pickup and Ford Explorer for good measure)!

“The Toys for Tots campaign has been a tremendous success in San Diego County in all of its previous years,” said Board of Supervisors Chairman Bill Horn. “As a former combat Marine, I’m honored to work with the Marine Corps and be part of the Toys for Tots campaign. It’s a great opportunity to spread holiday cheer, not only to the children who will now get toys, but also to everyone who donates a toy.”

People can drop off their toy donations at all of the airports at any time. Four of the five airports are collecting through Dec. 5: Borrego Valley Airport, Palomar-McClellan Airport in Carlsbad, Gillespie Field in El Cajon and Ramona Airport.

Fallbrook Airpark is collecting through Dec. 17.

To make the holiday drive even brighter, Ramona Airport and Fallbrook Airpark are holding special one-day events where Marines — decked out in full dress uniform — will collect donations in person and visitors will be able to see Marine Corps vehicles, vintage World War II aircraft and other private aircraft.

The Ramona event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 10. All of the toys collected at Borrego, Palomar-McClellan and Gillespie Field will be flown into Ramona Airport and presented at the Dec. 10 event.

The Fallbrook event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 17.

Again, all toys to be donated should be new and unwrapped! To get more information about the events, call Bo Donovan at (760) 788-3366.
