Additional Ballots To Go To Some North County Voters

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Voters in Fallbrook and Vallecitos will soon see additional election materials from the Registrar of Voters office in their mailbox after a misunderstanding left a local proposition off their sample ballot & voter information pamphlet and vote-by-mail ballots.

Proposition BB involves a proposal to create a Bonsall Unified School District. Currently, the Fallbrook Union High School District serves students in Bonsall, Fallbrook and Vallecitos. Voters in all three communities should have the option to vote on the creation of a Bonsall Unified School District but only Bonsall residents received ballots including Proposition BB.

As a result, the Registrar of Voters (ROV) is printing supplemental sample ballot booklets and vote-by-mail packets including Proposition BB and plans to mail the materials to voters in the Fallbrook and Vallecitos area Saturday.

All 20,349 voters in the Fallbrook and Vallecito areas are affected. Among them are 11,858 permanent vote-by-mail voters. They will all get a packet with a note explaining why they are getting the supplemental election materials. The remaining 8,491 voters are expected to go to the polls where they will receive two ballots; a regular one and supplemental Proposition BB ballot.

“The omission was a misunderstanding on our part,” said Registrar of Voters Deborah Seiler. “We regret the error and hope these additional election packets will ensure every voter in the Fallbrook Union High School District will have the opportunity to vote on Proposition BB.”

Vote-by-mail ballots went out in the mail to all County residents Tuesday and about 16,000   have been returned. If voters in the Fallbrook/Vallecitos area have already sent in their original ballot to the ROV, they will still receive a supplemental ballot for Proposition BB so they will have the opportunity to vote on the matter.

For more information on this matter, call (858) 565-5800 or email the ROV at rovmail@sdcounty.ca.gov. For other election information, visit www.sdvote.com.
