Avocados, Weeds and Protecting Your Home Against Fire

Reading Time: < 1 minute

What do these all have in common? The University of California Cooperative Extension and the County Farm & Home Advisors Office have a hand in researching and educating the public about them, and a lot more.

The public is invited this Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to a celebration of UC Cooperative Extension’s 100th birthday at the County Operations Center in Kearny Mesa. Come and learn more about which varieties of avocado are grown in San Diego County, invasive weeds and how they fuel wildfires and how to protect our homes and structures against fire. A variety of demonstrations, presentations and exhibits will be available at 5520 Overland Ave., San Diego, inside the Public Hearing Chambers and in the Courtyard out front.

In one presentation starting at 11:30 a.m. in partnership with the County Fire Authority, participants can watch a demonstration of various types of structures burning. The goal is to show how fire behaves with different types of building construction and materials.
