Beach Water Closure Issued for Silver Strand

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The County of San Diego Department of Environmental Health is asking residents to stay out of the waters in South County after sewage-contaminated runoff in the Tijuana River has flowed northward.

The water contact closure is an expansion from the existing closure area at the Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge and Imperial Beach shorelines.  The DEH suspects north-moving ocean currents have brought contamination to Silver Strand State Beach.

This week’s weather forecast calls for more rain. Signs warning of sewage-contaminated waters will remain in place until field measurements indicate the ocean water is safe for recreational use, including swimming, surfing and diving.
