County Board of Supervisors Chair Nathan Fletcher gave his second State of the County address during an evening presentation Tuesday, March 29.

Chair Fletcher said the region had one of the most effective COVID-19 responses in the nation, the economy is recovering and overall, the state of the county is strong.

He said the County made big strides last year on regional issues like homelessness, affordable housing, mental health and more.

Despite the progress, Chair Fletcher says more needs to be done. He announced a partnership with the City of San Diego and the community to put a homeless shelter donated by the Lucky Duck Foundation on County land within the city by July.

He outlined a broad variety of proposals to provide additional help for the homeless, increase the speed of building affordable housing, address the high cost of child care, and implement changes in child welfare, substance use issues, refugee affairs, wildfire safety and more.

The State of the County address was an invitation-only, limited capacity event at the Educational Cultural Complex Performing Arts Theatre at the San Diego Continuing Education Center.

The live address was available on social media channels and television. The address was also translated into American Sign Language, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Filipino and Vietnamese.

For details and additional proposals, watch the entire address above.
