County Announces “Pick Your Purr-fect Price” Adoption Event

Reading Time: < 1 minute

It may be summer in San Diego but it’s raining kittens at our local animal shelters.

“This time of year, the County Department of Animal Services receives on average of twenty kittens every day,” said Director of Animal Services Dawn Danielson. “That influx quickly overwhelms our shelters so we’re offering this special adoption event to prospective cat owners.”

The department’s normal adoption fee of $58 for any cat or kitten will be waived and the prospective adopters will be asked what adoption fee they would like to pay. That price will include spaying or neutering, vaccinations, a microchip and a free health examination. The adoptions are limited to two cats or kittens per household.

This bargain “Pick Your Purr-fect Price” adoption event starts today and continues through Friday, August 31 at all three County animal shelters in San Diego, Carlsbad and Bonita. The San Diego Humane Society and SPCA initiated the promotion; County Animal Services and Rancho Coastal Humane Society in Encinitas quickly joined the “Pick Your Purr-fect Price” event.

The County’s three shelters are open 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. They’re located at 5480 Gaines St., San Diego; 2481 Palomar Airport Rd., Carlsbad; and 5821 Sweetwater Rd., Bonita.
