County Honors Its Volunteers
Reading Time: < 1 minuteVolunteering with the County of San Diego is an opportunity to give back to your community. Some 38,398 volunteers gave their time and heart to the County during fiscal year 2015-16, resulting in an estimated value of nearly $33.9 million. Additionally, $840,775 in monetary and tangible/intangible gifts were donated to volunteer programs.
The wide array of services the County provides means volunteer opportunities with departments as varied as Animal Services, Libraries, Parks and Recreation, the Sheriff’s Department and Emergency Services.
On Tuesday, April 25, the volunteers were recognized at an annual ceremony at the County Administration Center, prior to the Board of Supervisors meeting. The following people were singled out for honors by the departments they served:
- Curt Nygard – Animal Services
- Minh Cao – Child Support Services
- Ethel Dimarucut and Eun Sook Son – Clerk of the Board
- Sarah Honaker, Florence Firth, Sherry Johnson, Steven Klass, Vickie Brown-Driver, Irene Kratzer, Robin Johnson – County Library
- Al Pierce and Jane Dunmeyer – Health and Human Services Agency, Aging and Independence Services
- Robert Brown – Health and Human Services Agency, Behavioral Health – Edgemoor
- Nikki Clark and Constanze Christopher – Health and Human Services Agency, Child Welfare Services
- Erika Garcia – Health and Human Services Agency, Central & South Regions
- Brooke Lunquist – Health and Human Services Agency, North Coastal & North Inland Regions
- Alan Bennett – Parks and Recreation
- Ulysses Dinero – Probation
- Courtney Williams and Andrea Mintz – Public Defender
- David McCollom – Public Works
- William Fitzpatrick – Registrar of Voters
- Charles Sinclair – Sheriff
In addition, April was declared Volunteer Recognition Month.
