Reading Time: 2 minutes

The San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) will offer free flu shots in Linda Vista on Friday and on additional days at the Public Health Center in Escondido this week.“It’s still not too late to get vaccinated for influenza,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., county public health officer. “There is plenty of flu vaccine available and HHSA is making sure residents have plenty of opportunities to get their flu shot and protect themselves.”

Free flu shots for people ages 6 months and older will be available, while supplies last, at the Bayside Community Center, 2202 Comstock Street, San Diego, from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25.
Free Pneumococcal vaccine will also be available for people ages 65 years and older or individuals with chronic medical conditions.

HHSA’s North Inland Public Health Center, located at 606 East Valley Parkway in Escondido, will also have flu shots available on additional days this week only. The Health Center will be open for adult walk-in flu shots from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23 through Friday, Jan. 25.

On Friday, Jan. 25, flu vaccine will also be available in Escondido for children ages 6 months to 17 years.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone six months and older get a flu vaccine every year. The vaccine is especially important for people who are at higher risk of developing serious complications from the flu, including people with certain medical conditions, pregnant women, and people 65 years and older.

“Influenza is usually fairly mild and most people recuperate at home, but it can be serious and deadly, especially for older adults, people with chronic medical conditions or young infants,” said Wooten.
