San Diego County public offices, family resource centers, library branches and animal shelters will be closed Tuesday, March 31 in observance of a state holiday.

The County Board of Supervisors recently adopted a resolution to call on the state and federal governments to formally rename annual observances and events dedicated to César Chávez.

All essential services including law enforcement and emergency animal control response will continue through the holiday.

County parks, campgrounds and neighborhood day-use parks remain open 365 days a year. However, the following locations will be closed Tues:

  • Fallbrook Community Center
  • Lakeside Community Center
  • Spring Valley Community Center
  • Spring Valley Gymnasium
  • 4S Ranch Recreation Office only (all parks will be open)
  • Valley Center Community Hall
  • Adams Park Pool
  • Community Teen Centers

Camping reservations can always be made online at the County’s Online Camping Reservations web page, but the Department of Parks and Recreation’s reservation phone line will not be staffed during the holiday.

All County public health clinics will also be closed March 31.

All County offices will resume normal business hours Wednesday, April 1.

On March 25, the County Board of Supervisors also directed the County’s Chief Administrative Officer to take action to rename César Chávez Day to Farmworkers Day through changes in the County Administrative Code and Compensation Ordinance and return to the Board on April 21.

The County remains committed to protecting workers and upholding labor standards that promote fairness, dignity, and accountability– values that extend far beyond the legacy of any one person.  Our Week of Action, leading up to the state holiday, continues to honor the essential contributions of farmworkers and the ongoing work of service, community empowerment and labor rights.
