It has been a busy and exciting year of progress as San Diego County continues to address the housing crisis and prioritize affordable housing.
In calendar year 2025, the County celebrated with multiple partners the completion of nine new affordable housing developments, adding a total of 867 apartment homes to the region.
The County invested $67.9 million to support the developments, four are located on surplus County property.
Located next to the Paul Downey Senior Residence, Modica and Taormina are two of four multi-story apartment buildings on the intergenerational Mt. Etna campus.
Since 2017, the County has invested more than $334 million into affordable housing, using excess land, its Innovative Housing Trust Fund alongside other state, federal, and local funding sources administered by the County. Those funds have helped open doors to over 3,400 homes with 2,600 more on the way.
The County’s Housing Hub has more information about its efforts to meet the needs of the community.
