County Urges Pet Owners to Microchip Pets

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Now that summer is coming to an end and the kids are back in school, this is a perfect time to take a little extra time with your pet.

You can get your pet vaccinated for rabies, licensed and microchipped all at the same time.

A one-stop clinic is taking place noon to 2:00 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 9 at the County Department of Animal Services shelter located at 5480 Gaines Street in San Diego.

“Confirming identity and ownership of lost pets is critical,” said Director of County Animal Services Dawn Danielson. “A microchip removes any doubt who owns the animal and helps us reunite little Fluffy or Fido with their owners.”

Pets can be micro-chipped for a one-time fee of $20, which includes the registration. Rabies vaccinations for dogs four months or older are $6. Amnesty from late fees is offered to owners who failed to license their dog or allowed their dog’s annual license to lapse. Spay/neuter coupons will be available, $25 for male pets and $50 for female pets.

Rabies vaccinations and microchipping are available to anyone. Licenses are available to residents who live in the unincorporated areas of the county or the contract cities of San Diego, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Solana Beach, Del Mar and Santee. For more information, contact the County Department of Animal Services at (619) 767-2675 or visit www.sddac.com.
