About 60 people attended a town hall forum in San Ysidro yesterday to learn about their options under the new healthcare law.
During the two-hour event, sponsored by Supervisor Greg Cox and the San Ysidro Health Center, residents learned about the Affordable Care Act, Covered California, available insurance plans, expansion of Medi-Cal, income guidelines and how to begin the enrollment process.
The discussion also focused on certified organizations that can enroll people wishing to get coverage and how to avoid scams, which are already being reported.
Participants also attended a resource fair and talked to representatives from YMCA, Chula Vista Community Collaborative, MAAC Project, South Bay Community Services and Casa Familiar.
Representatives from the Health and Human Services Agency were also on hand to distribute information about the County’s Live Well San Diego initiative, and to answer clients’ questions about Cal Fresh or food stamps and the status of their applications.
