The County Health and Human Services Agency’s Edgemoor Skilled Nursing Facility in Santee has again earned national recognition for providing top-quality treatment and services. The facility has earned a 2014 Silver Achievement in Quality Award by the American Health Care Association and the National Center for Assisted Living.

Edgemoor, which offers long-term care for patients with complex medical needs, is among 77 facilities selected for the award from a national pool of 15,000. The award was based on Edgemoor’s demonstrated systematic advancements in quality, plans for continual improvement and cost-effective service.

“This award further confirms what we’ve known about Edgemoor for some time,” said Chairwoman Dianne Jacob, County Board of Supervisors. “It’s a leader in providing the best service to seriously ill and injured adult patients who require long-term care.”

Only six facilities in California received the silver award. The 77 silver award winners in the nation can now apply for the organizations’ top prize – the Gold Excellence in Quality Award.

“The commitment of the staff at Edgemoor embodies the County of San Diego’s approach to service,” said County Chief Administrative Officer Helen Robbins-Meyer. “We always challenge ourselves to continually improve and set new goals.”

Edgemoor patients receive 24-hour skilled nursing care, physical rehabilitation, as well as recreational, occupational, and speech therapy. Patients at the 192-bed facility may have a multitude of ailments, including Huntington’s disease and AIDS, or may have experienced traumatic injury.

The commitment to quality care and continuous improvement supports Live Well San Diego, the County’s initiative to improve the health and safety of residents.

“One of the priorities under Live Well San Diego is improving the way we deliver services,” said Nick Macchione, Director of the Health and Human Services Agency. “This award validates our efforts to support that goal.”

This is not the first time Edgemoor has received national recognition. Edgemoor was honored in the U.S. News & World Report as a top nursing home in 2012, 2013, and 2014.

“This award is a tremendous honor,” said Edgemoor Administrator Walter Hekimian. “I am proud that the commitment of our staff is being recognized by our peers on a national level.”
