Fallen Officers Remembered

Reading Time: 3 minutes

San Diego County Law Enforcement Officers who have given their lives in the line of duty were saluted Wednesday at the Law Enforcement Officers’ Memorial Ceremony. Members of agencies from across the region gathered at the County Administration Center to pay their respects at the annual event.

The ultimate sacrifice made by these brave men and women should not be forgotten.
-Capt. Skip Murphy, San Diego County Sheriff’s Department

Although the tears have somewhat subsided, the memories have not.
-Nancy Robinson, surviving sister of a fallen officer

It takes a special kind of person to serve in law enforcement. While most run from danger, they run toward it.
-Ron Roberts, Board of Supervisors

There can be no triumph without loss, no victory without suffering, no freedom without sacrifice. It is left to us to reflect and honor.
-Herb Smith, Chaplain for San Diego County Sheriff’s Department and San Diego Police Department

I hope the families of all these officers can find comfort in this special place we offer.
-Ron Roberts, Board of Supervisors

Take a minute and look at the person behind you, the person next to you, the person in front of you. We’ve all lost someone, but because of that, we’re all connected. When I look out, I see a new branch on my family tree… keeping that connection with our family is important.
-Nancy Robinson, surviving sister of a fallen officer

Many of us served with these officers… they are our brothers and our sisters. They watch over us. Today, we remember them.
-Capt. Skip Murphy, San Diego County Sheriff’s Department

It is not how these officers died that made them heroes, it is how they lived.
