Leaders Mark Wildfire Anniversary, Discuss Improvements

One year after the start of the May 2014 wildfires, County leaders gathered to discuss improvements made over the last year and preparations for the fire season ahead.

Over five days last May, 14 separate fires – including the Bernardo, Poinsettia and Cocos fires – burned 26,000 acres, forcing the evacuation of more than 121,000 residents and causing the Governor to proclaim a State of Emergency.

Since then, the region continued to improve its firefighting abilities. The graphics below explain current resources available and changes the County has made.
